The Bastard's Shanty

We Bastards kill and plunder,
Across the seven seas.
For glory, gold and humour told,
Against our victim’s pleas!

For the open wide is heaven,
And we’re all rich and free.
Our foes below are tied in row,
Or long since thought to flee!

We hoist the sails with gusto,
To catch a summer’s breeze.
To burn and board, the merchant ship,
And take their wares with glee!

We’ve killed ourselves a pirate,
Or maybe two or three!
We maim and steal, you beg, we kill,
Our rivals pay life fees!

Magnificent the Bastard,
Descending on your quay.
Steadfast and true, we sail the blue,
In finest company!

One day we’ll find the Wormwood,
And our Captain will decree,
No mercy men, bring death to them,
While they beg on their knees!

And we will be the victors,
Stood in a bloody sea.
For glory, gold and humour told,
Against our victim’s pleas!
